Tasmanians have been warned to brace for severe thunderstorms crossing the state on Thursday afternoon.
Damaging winds, large hailstones and flash flooding are predicted in the state's south-east, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Lightning and winds strong enough to bring down tree branches and power lines are expected until 9pm (AEDT), the bureau said.
Heavy rain and hailstones large enough to damage cars have also been predicted.
The State Emergency Service has advised residents to secure outside items, move cars under cover and then go indoors.
Telephones should not be used during a thunderstorm unless the call is urgent.
