Is it ever polite or acceptable to correct people on their pronunciation of words/or actions in front of others?

What about when kids are running wild (doing things that could potentially harm themselves or others...or just plain annoying everyone)...with no parent in sight??

Would you say anything? Have you ever been in that situation? lol :)

I'd only correct pronouncation if asked to. At the store where I work there is often kids running wild in the store, usually with no adult guidence. We gotta say nothing unless they steal or are about to harm themselves

yeah a friend and I were just discussing this...especially about the unsupervised kids....or where the parent does nothing and lets them run wild..or the parent that abuses the kids...they go in both extremes...it's very frustrating and sad.I'd only correct pronouncation if asked to. tricky one - but if a kid is hassling/annoying my kids, i will tell them off.
i won't be rude but severe. parents in sight or not. usually the parents are around and will do the same. or if they are not then what else can you do? my kids are small. this in the public park.

but if you stumble on a stupid parent - happened to one of my girlfriends, a big kid was hassling her baby for a while so the baby's father lifted the boy (10-years old) and put him down further away, the parents freaked, the police was called in, he was taken to the police station for a few hours, they went to court, the parent's of the 10-year old claiming he was traumatized. and they were fined!

that kid is a monster - his parents just let him run lose. so moral of the story is you can tell them off but if you touch them....

it's a very delicate situation.

:bump2: this up....

This is a good question as I've so wanted to correct out of control children alot in public. I ride public tranportation to & from work each day during the week. I see the parents letting the kids yell, scream & run around on the trains & buses. It's like they don't care because it's not theirs to worry about.

I know it's public transportation, BUT people should have common sense that they are not the only 1's on the public trans..

I haven't yet told a parent to mind their child, but as the years pass & it seems to get much worse I'm getting dangerously close to it.

i dont usually correct people in public, unless they ask me to, for isntance a foreign friend who asks me to correct their english a lot. i usually think more than i say about correcting other people :)
