is it worth it to date an exchange student?

i recently began dating a norwegian student that is coming to my school for one year and i really like him. we get along very well, and he likes me as well. but he is leaving back to norway in 10 months, and so i am wondering if it is worth it to be with him now, because either we will have a really depressing breakup later or have a long-distance relationship where i could see him MAYBE once a year. or is it better to just never get involved with him since he is moving back? (i live in america)

Hiya Aussie. Glad to see ya. Well, it's up to you do you want a LDR? They aren't easy when the person is in a different state much less a different country. Then again you might enjoy the chance to get to get to know him and date him. Do you think you want a LDR? Of course you may just date him now and part ways as friends when he goes and keep in touch. There's that possibility.

Why not? I mean if you like to hang out together... LDR is hard. Probably impossible. Certainly across the ocean and time zones even more so. But isn't it a bit premature to already think about that? He is staying for ten months...Have you spoken about it? What does he think?

he doesnt seem to think that 10 months is a long time, first he said... "you know im moving back so we shouldnt get serious, or else our breakup will be awful" but then later he said, i was worth it and when he get home we can just have a long-distance thing. so i dont really know what to think.

enjoy what you have now with him. take it as it comes. if not you might regret it.
if when he leaves u two are still together then try LD if u both want to but dont end it with him simply because he wont be sticking around, have fun and make the most of the time you have right now together!

I also started to date an exchange student. He is from Finland and we get along really well. Problem is, he's not even staying a year only one semester. He said he didnt want things to get too serious, cause he's leaving soon, but then he said, that i mean a lot to him and that he has never felt so strongly for anyone before. After that it was just magical. But than i found out he's also been with a Brazilian girl, so now i really dont know wether he meant all those things he said, and i'm starting think it was all a mistake. Obviously you're situation is a bit different, i just wanted to share mine, cause i really dont know what to do now.
