For those who got to watch the Super Bowl last Sunday, I will admit that it was one great game. It made it even special when the hometown underdogs - the NY Giants - grabbed the lead by 3 points with 35 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter, thus sealing their victory against the Patriots. This is coming from someone who's not even a sports buff to begin with.
Besides the game, I really enjoyed the half-time performance of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Unlike the hype and glitter of most half-time performances in the past, Petty and his band kept it steady and simple throughout. He opened the show with the classic "American Girl," and then followed it with three more classics from his "Full Moon Fever" album -- "I Won't Back Down," "Free Fallin" and closed the set with "Runnin' Down A Dream."
Besides relatives, my wife invited a handful of her friends over who cheered on the Giants last night. It was quite a crazy night to say the least in the living room. When Petty and his band played "Free Fallin" one of the girls grabbed one of my guitars, and strummed along with the live broadcast. After the show, my wife muted the TV volume as it went to commercials, she continued to strum the two chords from Free Fallin' and the crowd sang along in unison!
I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers live back in the summer of 1995 at Saratoga Springs, NY. He was so awesome then ... he's still one amazing performer today. That performance just makes me want to see him in concert again. ;)
